Going hunting for the first time can be a daunting task, from getting your gear to finding the perfect location to go hunting. Well, I have some great news, in this post I am going to take you from getting ready to finally your first big trophy.

First off when hunters go on their first hunting trip they tend to overthink things and to over prepare. One of the best things you can do when getting ready to go hunting is to grab a buddy and go out to lunch to get their advice. As you talk over some food, talk with them about suggestions they may have about hunting in your area. While they may not give up their prized hunting spot, they could give you some really great tips about hunting in your area.

Getting Geared Up

Once you get some tips look ahead to the time you are going hunting, check the weather and some other facts about the area. Once you know what kind of weather to expect and the area you are hunting you can head to the store to get your gear.

Depending on where you are located there will be a few hunting outlets to choose from. I am located in Utah and so there are a few big stores that I will cover. Cabela’s, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Rec Outlet, Dicks, and Scheel’s. In this post I will cover a few of the stores and what are the perks to each.

Cabela’s

While Cabela’s is one of the biggest names out there, its also one of the most expensive. But don’t let that spook you away just because its expensive. One of the biggest perks of Cabela’s is that it has a huge variety of products. Because of this they are great for a one stop shopping experience. Another great thing about this is that they have free shipping over 50$, this means that you can shop online and get your products shipped to you in two days . They also have extraordinary customer service, they have 24/7 support chat are know for their customer service.

Some of the cons of Cabela’s is their return policy, they have a limited 90 day return policy. This means that if you get your gear in advance and then find out that it doesn’t fit and your over that return policy. Another con to Cabelas is their limited selection of firearms. They do have a large selection but not as large as other stores you could go to.

Scheel’s

Scheel’s is my personal favorite store when it comes to hunting gear. The main reason that being is that is very affordable and has a huge selection. But I’ll let you decide for yourself after this article.

Pro’s: Huge selection, Scheel’s has a massive selection, it doesn’t matter where you are hunting they will have the gear. From ice climbing to hunting in the jungle, Scheel’s will have the gear for you. Another pro is that they have very affordable prices and a large selection of firearms.

Some of the cons is that it does not carry the same name brand as Cabela’s has. It also does not have the same level of customer service as Cabela’s.
