7 Steps to have a successful hunting trip.

Step 1: Prepare

Can’t tell you enough how important it is to prepare. A good hunter is a prepared hunter. As you begin to prepare to go hunting, don’t just focus on the physical items, think about other ways you can prepare. Things like scouting and being in the proper shape can make or break a hunting trip.

Step 2: Prepare by scouting

It’s a rare occasion that you can just go out hunting in Utah without scouting and have a successful hunting trip. The main reason being that Utah is full of hunters that mostly prepare or drive around areas that you have been. Think outside of the box and go scouting, whatever you are hunting will generally have a territory or a place they return to. Going scouting and finding places where the animal you are hunting lives increase your chances of success of a hunting trip if you know where they are.

Step 3: Obtain permission if you need it

If you plan to hunt on private land, go and retain permission from the landowner so that you ensure that you are obeying all rules and regulations. Go ahead of time so that you can a higher chance of being able to contact the land owner. IF you are unable to contact the land owner, be sure to try neighbors to see if you may be able to hunt on their land.

Step 4: Ensure on hunting licences or ATV licence are up to date

Before you leave on your hunting trip make sure that you are already up to date on all of your ATV registrations as well as hunting permits. I can ell you on a handful of occasions that I have been late to the hunt because I get out and I double check my permit and find out that I am a month late on my hunting permit and so I have to return to the nearest outdoors store and purchase a hunting permit.

Step 5: Pack all your gear including ammo

While this may seem like a dumb thing to put in a list, I can tell you one time I forgot my ammo and then had to locate the nearest store that sold ammo to purchase some. While I was lucky that they had my caliber in stock. While your packing your gear, make sure to pack some food.

Step 6: Pack a victory/ failure meal

While this seems like a weird thing to do, I can tell you it will make the difference on a hunting trip. Make sure that you pack a good breakfast meal or a dinner meal that will come in as a success meal or a failure meal. Because either way you are going to eat good and it can set the tone for while you are on your way home or a good day of camping.

Step 7: Have fun

This is the most important thing to do when hunting. Hunting is all about nature and connecting with it. Sure you get to shoot stuff, but take a minute while you are hunting to appreciate where you are. Enjoy nature and the time away from everything, if you bring friends or family enjoy the time together.

Have a great time hunting and Ill catch you next time!!
